New social media intern joins our team

Hello! My name is Ashlee Porteous, and I’m the new student social media intern for the Oregon Forest Resources Institute.

I’m currently a junior at the University of Oregon, where I’m majoring in journalism and minoring in climate studies.

I was born and raised in Oregon City, about 30 minutes outside of Portland. It’s safe to say I’m no stranger to the Pacific Northwest and all the natural beauty it has to offer. I grew up going on hikes, camping at state parks, paddleboarding, swimming in lakes, kayaking and exploring the great outdoors in pretty much any way imaginable.

More recently, I made a goal to try and visit every national park. So far, I’ve made it to seven of the 63, which may not seem like a whole lot, but each one was an adventure in itself. I hope to visit at least one more before the end of this year.

When I’m not at school or out in nature, I enjoy trying out new baking recipes, going to the movies, reading, walking shelter dogs and hanging out with my friends.

I’m excited about this amazing opportunity at OFRI and look forward to helping educate fellow Oregonians about our forests!
