Portland, Ore. – Sourcing from Sustainable Forests, a new special report from the Oregon Forest Resources Institute (OFRI), examines what it means to manage forests responsibly, and how architects and builders can ensure that the wood used for their projects comes from sustainable sources.
Now available to order or download for free from OFRI’s website, the 36-page educational report explores how sustainable forestry practices are regulated and encouraged, how voluntary practices can further promote sustainability, and how forest certification programs document sustainability.
The report also features profiles of Oregon forest landowners describing their unique approaches to forest sustainability, as well as case studies. One study in particular — about the new wood-dominated Portland International Airport terminal expansion — exemplifies how some mass timber builders are exploring sourcing sustainable wood products.
As a companion to Sourcing from Sustainable Forests, OFRI produced a supplemental digital-only publication called Forest Sustainability FAQs, which expands on a series of questions about forest management found in the special report. The Forest Sustainability FAQs document is available to download from OFRI’s website.
