Social media intern joins the OFRI team

Hello! My name is Henry Thomas, and I am the new social media intern for the Oregon Forest Resources Institute (OFRI).

As a seventh-generation Oregonian born and raised in Portland, my roots in this beautiful state run deep. I grew up in a nature-focused family, and we sought adventures on weekends and summer vacations, exploring the stunning coast, wading in rivers, climbing mountains and immersing ourselves in the great outdoors. I feel fortunate not only to have had these opportunities, but also to call such a remarkable place home.

I am currently a senior at the University of Oregon, majoring in business administration with concentrations in finance and marketing.

In addition to my role at OFRI, I serve as the executive of communications for the University of Oregon’s student chapter of the American Marketing Association. Our team provides networking and career development opportunities through guest speakers, workshops, site visits to companies of interest and various events. I have thoroughly enjoyed collaborating with a fantastic group of peers as we rebuild the club post-COVID and witness the positive impact we are making across diverse majors.

In my free time, I am often regarded as the “adventurer” among my friends. Living in Track Town USA (aka Eugene), I have developed a passion for distance running, frequently lacing up my shoes to explore wherever the trail may lead me. Along with running, I enjoy cycling, backpacking, camping, road trips and refining my bread-baking skills.

One key lesson I’ve learned as a university student is that making connections begins with a simple “Hello.” This mindset guides me as I bridge the gap between my educational experiences and my future career goals. I cherish the opportunity to make new friends and learn from the diverse life stories of individuals I meet.

I am excited about my time at OFRI and truly appreciate the opportunity to connect my fellow Oregonians with the knowledge of the beautiful nature that surrounds us.
