Living among the trees
Forests surround many cities and towns throughout Oregon, but many of these communities have forested areas woven throughout them as well. The Portland Metro area alone boasts more than 12,000 acres of forestland, most of which is low-elevation, mixed-conifer forest with some hardwood. The 5,100-acre Forest Park is the country’s largest urban forest and home to more than 112 bird and 62 mammal species.
